Union Member Services Advocates are members who are trained to assist their fellow union sisters and brothers with issues on the job. Spanning across all four chapters, these members volunteer their time to become well-versed in employment issues, including the grievance procedure in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, workers’ compensation, and the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS) home care issues and appeals. Through extensive training, Member Services advocates possess a solid foundation to assist their fellow members.
Member Services Advocates are available across several departments and jurisdictions and serve as an immediate resource for members who are first bringing their workplace issue to the union. After taking in information about a member’s workplace issue, the Member Services Advocates work with Member Services staff to assess the available remedies and obtain follow up information. The support they extend to the SEIU Virginia 512 membership allows Member Services to effectively serve our approximately 3,500 members.
